The future of automotive technology is heading toward increasingly connected, autonomous vehicles. The state of Florida is helping national and international manufacturers achieve this future in an expedient manner with the construction of a new transportation testing facility.

Centrally located between Tampa and Orlando in Polk County, Florida, SunTrax is a 475-acre state-of-the-art facility dedicated to the research, development and testing of emerging transportation technologies in safe and controlled environments.

Florida’s Turnpike Enterprise, a business segment of the Florida Department of Transportation (DOT), is financing the facility which will be owned and operated by the Turnpike. When fully operational, SunTrax will provide numerous testing spaces to aid in the study of tolling technology, lane marking, intelligent transportation systems and connected and autonomous vehicles (CAV).
